Geoff Brailsford, Group Sales Director for Kingstown
There’s no doubting that the demand for British furniture has grown over the last year. The credit crunch and poor quality of imported goods have been contributing factors to this trend, in addition to the superiority of products manufactured closer to home.
However, whilst consumers are keen to support the UK economy and want the best quality products available – we predict that design and value for money will be the main motives for buying throughout 2010.
At the beginning of 2010, we received the positive news that the UK was finally coming out of recession. This is great news for the furniture industry. However manufacturers cannot rest on their laurels or rely on British heritage if they are to attract custom from an ever demanding public.
We envisage the effects of the credit crunch remaining for some time, and although the consumer will be prepared to pay for quality items, they will still insist on receiving the best quality products for the best possible prices.
That’s not to say the consumer doesn’t recognise the additional benefits of buying British though! Convenience, easier communication and quicker delivery times combined with confidence in the future of British manufacturing also encourage consumers to buy closer to home.
British-focused design
At Kingstown we are keen to provide exactly what the UK consumer wants. We work hard to ensure our designs are ideal for the British market and continue to launch original and exciting products including our new ranges ‘Provence’ and ‘Louise’.
Provence has a warm oak finish and a front frame design concept. The furniture has an attractive ‘cock-bead’ detail around the doors and drawers and the range benefits from an antique pewter knob. The range also features traditional scotia moulding on the chests and side moulding which gives the furniture a strong presence.
Louise has a rich walnut finish and distinctive wide frame five piece door and drawer feature. The range features a slim mirror in keeping with the door design, extra height and contemporary bar handles. The full depth assembled wardrobes which, as well as free-standing, are available in a variety of packages to achieve a ‘fitted look’ with ease. They come with a choice of double and single hanging options as standard and the single wardrobes offer hanging or shelving.
